Welcome to 6th grade math! I am looking forward to an exciting and fun filled year with your 6th grade students. I am a recent graduate of Illinois State University with my Bachelors in Middle Level Education. I am very familiar with the area as I am also a graduate of Lockport Township High School and Oak Prairie rival, Kelvin Grove. Throughout the year we will be participating in various activities and lessons that will deepen students understandings of Mathematic concepts. Students will not only be challenged procedurally but also conceptually when asked to explain HOW and WHY they took certain steps to arrive at a solution. Students will be held at high standards and we will work as a class to make sure that everyone is on the right track.
Students will be expected to complete homework 2-3 times a week. Homework will be graded on a points system and it will be posted on my class website. Late homework will be accepted for partial credit, up until the chapter test. There will be a quiz before chapter tests to track student progress and understanding. There will be 2-3 chapter tests per quarter, depending on the length of the chapter. These tests can be retaken one time if, and only if, students have all of their homework turned in from that chapter. Quarter grades will be 25% homework, 35% quizzes, and 40% tests.
If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns you can always access me via email or phone. My email is [email protected] and my extension is 3298. I look forward to hearing from you.
